Dollsgiving: A Holiday Tradition That Builds Confidence in Black Girls Through Representation

The holidays remind us of what truly matters: giving, community, and creating moments that last. At Beautiful Curly Me, this season is extra special because it brings us back to Dollsgiving, our annual tradition of sharing joy, representation, and confidence with girls who need it most.

What started with one little girl who couldn’t find a doll that looked like her has become a movement that reaches thousands.

The Heart of Dollsgiving

Confidence is shaped early, and representation plays a huge part in that journey. Many Black girls go through childhood without ever holding a doll that reflects their curls, their skin, and their magic. Dollsgiving exists to change that to make sure more girls feel seen, celebrated, and empowered.

How Dollsgiving Began: A Mission Rooted in Representation

Years ago, our then 7-year-old CEO, Zoe, realized that so many girls just like her did not have dolls that reflected their curls, their skin, or their brilliance. She decided not only to create the dolls she wished she had, but also to make sure other girls could experience that same sense of representation and confidence.

In 2020, we launched the Gift-A-Doll Initiative with a simple and heartfelt goal: to donate 100 dolls to girls who needed a reminder of their worth.
With support from families, schools, organizations, and community partners, we met that goal, and the tradition of Dollsgiving began.

The Growth of a Movement

Every year since, Dollsgiving has grown through the love and generosity of parents, caregivers, school groups, and corporate partners.

Through these efforts, we’ve been able to:

  • Donate thousands of dolls across Atlanta and beyond

  • Partner with youth programs, shelters, and community groups

  • Support holiday toy drives and year-end giving campaigns

  • Put affirming representation into the hands of girls who rarely receive it

These donations do more than provide toys—they support Black girl leadership, confidence development, and emotional well-being.

How You Can Support Dollsgiving This Holiday Season

This is where our community shines. Whether you’re a parent, a caregiver, a teacher, or part of a company looking for meaningful impact, you can help bring representation to a girl who deserves it.

1. Sponsor a Doll Donation

Your contribution directly gifts a Beautiful Curly Me doll to a girl in an underserved community.
Perfect for families who want a simple yet powerful holiday give-back tradition.

2. Launch a Dollsgiving Drive at Your School, Church, or Company

We make it easy for groups to participate.
CSR teams, ERGs, and community impact departments love this initiative because it centers confidence, representation, and youth empowerment.

3. Give in Honor of Your Daughter

Parents often sponsor dolls as a way to teach their daughters about giving, leadership, and community care.

4. Share the Mission

Every share, post, or mention helps us reach more girls who need support this season.

Why Your Donation Makes a Lasting Difference

When you give through Dollsgiving, you’re not just donating a toy—you’re investing in:

  • Representation that builds self-esteem

  • Positive identity development for young Black girls

  • Leadership and confidence skills that last

  • Joyful holiday memories for families who may be struggling

You’re helping a girl see what’s possible for her future.
