Simple, uplifting words parents can use every day
We believe that confidence starts at home through loving words, supportive moments, and daily affirmations that help our girls feel seen and celebrated.
Our mission is to empower young Black girls through representation in toys, books, and experiences that reflect their beauty, brilliance, and power. But as important as our products are, we know that the most powerful voice your daughter hears is yours.

Here are 5 simple phrases you can say to your daughter every day to help build her confidence and remind her just how amazing she truly is:
1. “I love your ideas.”
When your daughter hears this, she learns that her thoughts are valued and worth sharing. It encourages her creativity, curiosity, and confidence to speak up in any room she enters. By celebrating her voice early, you're teaching her that her perspective matters.
2. “Your hair is beautiful just the way it is.”
Our girls don’t always see images that reflect their natural beauty, and that starts with their hair. When you affirm her curls, coils, or braids, you are nurturing pride in her identity and showing her that her features are something to be celebrated. That’s why we created dolls like Bella, Imara, and Binta—so she can see her beauty reflected during play.
3. “It’s okay to make mistakes. That’s how we grow.”
Children often think they need to be perfect, but real confidence comes from learning through challenges. When you normalize mistakes, you help her develop resilience and self-compassion. This phrase teaches her that trying, failing, and trying again is part of the journey, not something to be afraid of.
4. “I’m proud of you.”
These four words are powerful, especially when shared consistently. They remind your daughter that who she is—and how she shows up—is seen and appreciated. Whether she’s trying something new or simply being herself, knowing you’re proud of her builds a deep sense of self-worth.
You can also help her internalize this with affirmations like:
-
“I am proud of who I am.”
-
“My best is enough.”
-
“I can celebrate myself, even when no one’s watching.”
5. “You can do hard things.”
This phrase reminds her that she is capable, even when things feel tough. It helps her push through challenges with courage and believe in her own strength. Saying this regularly plants the seed that she doesn’t have to be fearless—she just has to keep going.
Words are powerful. When girls grow up hearing affirmations that reflect their worth, beauty, and potential, they learn to believe in themselves.

At Beautiful Curly Me, everything we create—from dolls like Bella, the confident leader, to Imara, the graceful ballerina, to Binta, the bold scientist—is designed to help girls know they belong, they matter, and they are more than enough.

And through our Confident Girls Lead Club, we give girls ages 8–12 a safe, joyful space to grow their confidence, build leadership skills, and connect with other girls who are learning to lead with confidence
Because when girls see themselves reflected in the world around them, and hear love reflected in the words around them, they rise.
